I'm "x" years old...

I'm 3 years old. There is a counter in the apartment where I am seated in a high chair. The chair is metal with green and white plastic cushions. I can feel the plastic sticking to the bottom of my sweaty thighs. There is an aroma of fish in the air. My daddy has just finished cooking dinner. I can see the steam rising out of the rice cooker. I hear the sound of wooden chopsticks and porcelain rice bowls click and clang against the formica counter-top. I see shoyu (soy-sauce) and a piece of fish in my daddy's plate. He is neatly cleaning a piece of fish, carefully removing every single bone from the fish one by one. There is a pile of bones that have been intentionally placed on the side of his plate, as if to save them for later. With his wooden laminated chopsticks, my daddy picks up a tiny piece of fish. My mouth is opening in anticipation as the flesh of the fish hits my tongue. The distinct flavor of shoyu and fish melts in my mouth as I chomp away. This is dinner time.

  1. I sometimes wonder if my kids noticed the love that we put into mealtime showcased by our meticulous preparation of nutritious and safe foods. Put love into all of your meals. Okazu will seem like 5 star cuisine.
